IECharge® and reinforced cables

Electric Mobility EV Charging Technology

For more than three months, our team has been trying various solutions to combat the wave of vandalism affecting our network. This wave of vandalism primarily involves the theft of copper cables, the very cables that allow you to charge your vehicle when you visit our stations. All operators of electric vehicle charging infrastructure (EVCI) are affected. The same is true for rail transport and telecommunications operators.

At IECharge®, a complaint is filed with the authorities for every act of vandalism. More than fifty complaints have been filed with the authorities following cable thefts. Thus, any damage is reported and may result in legal action. The law provides for a penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of 30,000 euros, with a statute of limitations of up to six years after the incident.

In addition, our teams have helped draft a national agreement to combat malicious acts targeting electric vehicle charging infrastructure. This agreement is currently under review by the various stakeholders involved.

Today, our team has identified various solutions to combat this problem. Among the solutions selected are the latest-generation Kevlar shielded cables, which are in use at several of our stations, including the one in Méru-Amblainville in the Oise department (photo below). Other cable protection solutions are also under consideration. We’re also exploring other options such as surveillance cameras, alarm bells, or metal protective hatches with authentication.

Our teams are hard at work getting our network back on track
, but it will take time. Because we’re determined not to raise our prices and to remain the cheapest French network on the market at €0.25/kWh with no subscription fee.

So yes, our team still has a ways to go to offer you the best electric charging service. But yes, our team is highly motivated. Big shoutout to all of you who use our network and are being patient.

We’ll be back very soon with more good news.
